Il Fornaio Cucina Italiana offers a very satisfying happy hour in the bar area only, running 3–6 PM daily. Las Vegas has two locations, one at The Venetian and the one I visited at New York-New York. The company describes its mission as delivering “the most authentic Italian experience outside of Italy,” and while that is a bold claim, this happy hour definitely makes a strong case for itself.
The NYNY location may be the largest restaurant on that floor, with a huge footprint and plenty of patio-style seating along the indoor walkway. But for happy hour, it is all about the bar. That is where the deals apply, and it turns out to be well worth grabbing a seat early.
The cocktail menu is limited, but what they do offer is very good. I ordered the Kickin’ Old Fashioned, which arrived in a somewhat small pour, but made up for it with plenty of strength and flavor. It had the kind of bold punch you want from an Old Fashioned, so even if it looked a little restrained at first glance, it delivered where it mattered.
For food, I tried the Calamaretti Fritti from the happy hour menu, and this was the surprise of the visit. Instead of a reduced-size appetizer, the portion was actually quite large, crispy, and more generous than expected. That is one thing I really appreciated here: unlike some happy hours that quietly shrink portions along with prices, Il Fornaio’s offering still feels substantial.
That is really the theme of this happy hour: limited choices, but excellent ones. It is not an overwhelming menu, but the quality is strong enough that you do not feel shortchanged. Between the well-made cocktails and the generous calamari, the whole experience felt polished, comfortable, and much more upscale than the typical casino quick-stop bar.
Overall, Il Fornaio at NYNY delivers a happy hour I would gladly return to. The bar-only rule is worth noting, but once seated, the combination of quality drinks, surprisingly ample food portions, and a polished Italian setting makes this one easy to recommend. Whether you visit here at NYNY or their other Las Vegas location at The Venetian, Il Fornaio is a happy hour worth checking out.
