Nicco’s Prime Cuts & Fresh Fish, located within the Durango Casino Resort, now offers a delightful upscale happy hour called Golden Hour, running from 4-6 PM Sunday through Thursday. This new addition is a pleasant surprise, as previously, the only happy hour option in the casino was at The George or in the food court. Golden Hour has been around for about a month, and I hope it’s here to stay rather than just an experiment—it’s the perfect way to enjoy Nicco’s quality dishes and cocktails without a full dinner commitment.

For drinks, I chose the Spicy Paloma, a refreshing and unique cocktail that brought just the right amount of heat. It’s the most popular cocktail on the Golden Hour menu, and it’s easy to see why. The balance of flavors made it a memorable choice, especially on a warm evening. For food, I opted for the chef’s ceviche, which was so fresh and flavorful that it disappeared all too soon. While Prime Rib Poutine and Frito Misto are also popular items, the ceviche was a light yet satisfying option, complementing the cocktail perfectly.

Golden Hour also features a lovely outdoor patio, providing a serene spot to relax and enjoy the upscale atmosphere. The patio wasn’t very busy during my visit, but it adds to the charm, making it feel like a hidden gem within the casino resort.

The $28 for a cocktail and ceviche felt like a reasonable price, given the refined setting. While it’s not the lowest happy hour pricing in town, it’s fair considering Nicco’s upscale ambiance and quality offerings.

Overall, Golden Hour at Nicco’s Prime Cuts & Fresh Fish is a great way to sample the restaurant’s offerings. With inventive cocktails, delicious dishes, and a serene outdoor patio, it’s a refreshing addition to the Durango Casino Resort’s dining options. Hopefully, Golden Hour becomes a permanent fixture, as it’s a sophisticated option worth revisiting.

Overview: Located within the Durango Resort, The George stands out as the sole restaurant offering a happy hour among a diverse selection of dining options, including Bel-Aire Lounge, Nicco’s, Mijo’s Modern Mexican, Summer House, and the food court Eat Your Heart Out. Additionally, the center bar, Oasis Lounge, adds to the resort’s appeal. Although I didn’t explore the food court options, it’s worth noting that they offer a variety of food choices that might include their own happy hour deals.

Happy Hour Details:

  • Venue: The George
  • Setting: Outdoor patio (closed during extreme heat)

The George: The George is the quintessential sports bar and sportsbook, featuring an impressive array of TV screens so you can catch all the action from every angle. Its vibrant sports atmosphere is accentuated by the lively setting, making it a great spot for sports enthusiasts and casual patrons alike. The George offers its happy hour exclusively on the outdoor patio, where you can enjoy the action with a side of live entertainment on select evenings. However, during my visit, the patio was closed due to an excessive heat wave.

Happy Hour Menu: The happy hour menu at The George boasts some appealing deals, with a variety of options that cater to different tastes. I’ve included a photo of the menu here so you can check out the great offers for yourself. Even though the patio was off-limits during my visit, the value and quality of the happy hour items are worth noting and make it a destination worth revisiting.

Atmosphere and Experience: The George is a standout spot for sports fans, with its dynamic sports book environment and ample TV screens that keep you immersed in the action. The outdoor patio, when open, provides a more relaxed and enjoyable setting for happy hour, complemented by occasional live entertainment that enhances the overall experience. Given the impressive setup, a visit during a game night would likely provide an even more immersive atmosphere.

Other Dining Options: While The George is the only restaurant at Durango Resort offering a happy hour, the other dining venues like Bel-Aire Lounge, Nicco’s, Mijo’s Modern Mexican, and Summer House each provide unique dining experiences. Although they do not offer happy hours, they contribute to the overall dining variety at the resort.

Location and Accessibility: The Durango Resort offers a well-rounded selection of dining and entertainment options, making it a versatile destination for food and fun. The George’s prime location within the resort and its impressive sports bar setup make it a compelling choice for a visit. While parking and accessing the resort can sometimes be a bit busy, the experience and atmosphere are well worth it.

Overall Experience: Happy hour at The George is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a great deal in a top-notch sports bar setting. Although the patio was closed during my visit due to the heat, the combination of excellent happy hour deals, an extensive sports viewing setup, and the potential for live entertainment make it a standout choice. For those interested in experiencing the full ambiance, returning on a game night is highly recommended to fully appreciate the lively atmosphere and enjoy the outdoor patio. The George is undoubtedly worth a visit, both for its happy hour and its exceptional sports bar experience.
